Early Life
Christian was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and moved to California at age 5 when his mother remarried. He started guitar lessons at 12 and, as Page Six quoted him, became “so obsessed with playing guitar” that he “dropped out of school altogether three years later.”

He first played with the folk group the Driftwood Singers before going solo. Phoebe Bridgers co-produced his 2020 album Beginners and its follow-up, Quitters (2022). His third album for Anti-, Paradise Pop. 10, came out in September 2024, produced by Bridgers, Marshall Vore and Joseph Lorge, with guest vocals from Bridgers, Katy Kirby and Maya Hawke.
He’s also a sought-after collaborator. He opened for Bridgers on tour and has written or performed with Conor Oberst, Marshall Vore, Whitmer Thomas and Ethan Gruska, as well as working on Hawke’s own records, Moss and Chaos Angel.

Christian and Maya were friends and musical collaborators before they were a couple, and went public with their romance in 2023. Maya has been a vocal fan of that approach. “I cannot recommend highly enough dating your friends. It’s the best,” she said on The Zach Sang Show in 2024.
